We offer all sorts of different activities for you to get involved. Get healthy with our Tai Chi group that meets in the Family Life Center twice a week. If music is your talent, we have hand bell and Chancel Choir groups that practice on Wednesday evening and add to the Sunday services.
ABOUT OUR WORSHIP EXPERIENCE…
Through a blended worship service, we are able to offer the best of both worlds -- worship led by the Praise Team with the more contemporary sounds of praise songs, keyboard, guitars and drums, and the more traditional sounds of hymns, pipe organ, piano, choir and hand bells. This is a wonderful opportunity for praise and worship for everyone.
ABOUT OUR CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES…
We have a nursery just across the hall from the sanctuary for children birth through age 4. Children's Sunday School features the "Journey to Jesus" rotation model curriculum and is open to all children pre-school to sixth grade. Other children's activities are scheduled periodically throughout the year including Vacation Bible School, summer camping programs, parties and other fun activities.
ABOUT OUR YOUTH MINISTRIES…
A full range of activities are offered to lead junior and senior high school students toward full-devotion to Jesus Christ. Our youth gather in the Family Life Center at 5 p.m. on Sundays for Bible Study, fellowship, food, and fun. Other youth group activities are scheduled periodically throughout the year!
ABOUT SPIRITUAL GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES…
Our mission statement is "Knowing Christ and Making Christ Known." We try to provide numerous opportunities for our members and guests to grow and deepen their spiritual life including our Sunday morning worship experience, Bible study opportunities, and mission trips. Our Sunday School classes are wonderful places to grow in discipleship and to meet and make new friends.
ABOUT TIMES OF FELLOWSHIP…
In months where there are fifth Sundays, the congregation gathers in the Family Life Center for a pot-luck dinner. Members bring covered dish items as wells as pies, cookies and cakes and the church provides the meat entrée, drinks, and table service. This is a good time to get to know each other better.
ABOUT UNITED METHODIST WOMEN…
The United Methodist Women (UMW) is an organization whose purpose is to know God and create a supportive fellowship around the world. Our UMW at Byers Avenue is connected to a worldwide organization that has almost one million members.
As a worldwide organization, we contribute approximately $1.9 million to local and foreign missions. You will find UMW members traveling on mission trips; working in the kitchen; comforting the bereaved; helping out in hospitals and clinics; and holding bake sales. We advocate for women and children's issues here and around the world. We believe educating ourselves and others is an important goal. We hold that every child is our child, and every woman is a sister, a mother, a grandmother or a daughter. To learn more about UMW, join us for a meeting or attend one of our activities.
ABOUT SPECIAL EVENTS…
Music is a big part of our church's mission in Knowing Christ and Making Christ Known. We have some talented music leaders, musicians and singers in our congregation. Our "Fall Fiasco," a combination of good food, music and comedy and is one of the church's fund-raising events. Our women also provide a fund-raising turkey dinner prior to Thanksgiving and, from time to time, we sponsor rummage sales which help unite our church membership in working together for a common cause. Another special event is our Fall Fiasco pie sale during the Fourth of July holiday. The Fall Fiasco players make and bake a variety of pies for sale. It has proven to be a major fund-raiser for the church.
