Continued Suspension of In-person Worship

Good afternoon, families and friends of Byers Avenue. Recently I had suggested a tentative return to in-person worship on January 17th. Due to continuing high numbers of Covid-19 cases in the area, however, I, along with our church’s advisory council and other church leaders, have made the difficult decision to delay our return to in-person worship a while longer.

To say that I’ve been wrestling with this issue for some time is an understatement. I, like you, am eagerly anticipating the time we can be together again. Still, my motivation is for the safety of our congregants. Please know that I do not take these decisions lightly, nor do I make them without appropriate guidance.

Over the last couple of days, I’ve reached out to our advisory council in an attempt to reach a consensus concerning this decision. Overwhelmingly, the members of the advisory council suggested that we continue to delay in-person worship. I am also guided by the bishop of our Missouri Conference, who has encouraged churches in high-risk areas to cease meeting in-person for the time being.

I know that many of you will be disappointed by this decision. Some may even be angry. That is okay and can even be healthy for a church, if we handle it in the right way. I would encourage you, therefore, if you have questions or concerns, please reach out to me directly. My cell phone number is 417-317-4753 and my email address is We can also schedule a time to meet in person.

I love being your pastor, even during difficult seasons. We, as a church, will get through this. In the meantime, stay safe. Be intentional in your spiritual disciplines. Love one another. – Pastor Chuck
